Arduous
bus journey and 2 hrs in line to get into Peru again. We are met by Nesty, our
friendly tour guide at the Puno bus station and we book our taxi ride to the
Juliaca airport for tomorrow. He gets us a discount rate for tonight at Hotel
Casona Plaza ($55/night) and a taxi ride there. It’s very good.
We
have a very good evening at the Los Balcones restaurant with some Peruvian
cultural entertainment. We spend the evening with Marco, his fiancée and
friends. We met this Japanese group when touring the floating islands of Puno.
He
is a chef and wants to take back to Japan some Peruvian dishes and open a
restaurant.
He
is also a part-time Salsa instructor and has with him one of his students and
her friend.
The floating islands are not interesting now but it is a good view into a community that thrived for the last 400 years or so with about 2,000 people. They communicate island to island by waving at one another from their watch-towers.
