Up
at 6.00am to get the 8.00am bus for the seven hour journey to Puno. Most of it
at about 3500m elev. and the road and scenery are great, best to do this one
during the day. Lots of small Peruvian villages with old women in their purple
pleated skirts, black waistcoats and black felt hats tending their 20 sheep and
a few cows. Most of the small houses look unfinished and unoccupied but I think
neither is the case. No running water, heating or sewage but they do have
electricity-I bet they are all inside watching Downton Abby.
Puno
is an overnight stop and not a destination-we are on our way to Bolivia to see
some of the Amazon jungle. We stay at the Huchuy Wasi Hostel and it’s very
basic with very cool/ouch shower water. $18/night incl. breakfast.
15
days of the 60 day trip and 7 different beds so far.
